FAQ
Common questions
Quick answers to things that come up during setup and sync.
Why Shopify members can be higher than Ads audience size
Members is your Shopify segment count. The size in Google Ads is how many of those people Google could match to signed-in accounts for Customer Match — so it is almost always lower, and that is expected.
- Not every customer matches. Google only counts users it can link to a Google account from hashed email or phone. Guests, bad data, and people without a matchable Google identity drop out.
- Incomplete contact details. Shopify members can include customers missing a usable email or phone. Those still count in Members, but they cannot be uploaded for matching.
- Duplicates and cleanup. Google deduplicates identifiers and may remove invalid, opted-out, or policy-filtered records before reporting size.
- Processing takes time. After a sync, Ads can show Processing for days while the match rate settles. Size often rises as matching completes — you can still add the audience to campaigns in the meantime.
A lower Ads size than Shopify members does not mean the sync failed. It means Google found fewer matchable users than your store segment contains.
How do I create a Shopify segment?
Ads Audiences syncs Shopify customer segments — rule-based lists you build in Shopify Admin. Once a segment exists, enable it in the app to push it to Google Ads.
In Shopify Admin, go to Customers → Segments, then create one from a template, filters, or the ShopifyQL editor. Shopify's Sidekick AI can also generate a segment from a plain-language description — handy if you know who you want to target but not the exact filters.
Example segments
Build these in Shopify Admin, then sync to Google Ads.
